Writing social captions from a client's website

The client's website already says what they sell and who it is for. Starting captions from that page keeps them accurate and on message. Here is a simple way to do it.

Pick the right page

The home page is often thin. An about page, a service page or a product page usually has the clearest text about what the business does. Choose a public page with real text on it. Pages that load their content only with JavaScript, or sites that block automated readers, may not be readable by a tool, so copy the text by hand in that case.

Pull out four things

  • What the business offers, in plain words.
  • Who it is for.
  • The problem it solves for them.
  • The tone of the writing, formal or friendly.

Write three angles

One page can give you several different posts. Three angles cover most needs.

  • Offer-focused: say what the business provides and why it matters.
  • Audience or problem-focused: start from the customer's situation.
  • Conversational: write it the way the owner would say it out loud.

Check before you post

  • Remove any number, price or claim the page does not support.
  • Keep it short enough for the platform.
  • Read it as the client would. If it does not sound like them, rewrite it.

Try it on a real page

Impret has a free demo that does exactly this. Paste a public client page, or paste the text itself if the site blocks readers, and it returns three short drafts: offer-focused, audience-focused and conversational. No account is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the client's permission to use their website text?

Use public pages you are allowed to use. For a client, you normally already work with their content, but check your agreement if you are unsure.

What if the site blocks tools or needs JavaScript?

Copy the text from the page and paste it into the tool instead of using the link.

Are the captions ready to post?

Treat them as drafts. Review the facts and the tone, then edit before posting.
